Country music lost both Buck Owens and Freddy Fender. Billy Cowsill, a galvanizing force on the western Canadian music scene for a quarter of a century, died in “Calgary at the age of 57. An artist of Cowsill’s stature and talent cannot be replaced, but we were fortunate to have him in our midst and can cherish the discs he made with Blue Northern, The Blue Shadows, as a solo artist and with The Co-Dependents, The Tim Williams-produced Sorrowbound: A Re-Examination of Hank Williams featuring Cowsill in the company of Stewart MacDougall, Jane Hawley, Tim Williams and Tom Phillips, was released shortly after Cowsill’s death in February.
