In the past few years, television has been a vast wasteland when it comes to paying serious attention to Canadian roots music.
. . .
Hosted by Blue Rodeo’s Jim Cuddy, the program was the brainchild of Tami Greer, a one-time member of a rockabilly band known as The Dots, Greer’s company, Back 40 Productions, lined up this interesting mix of players and singers and also engaged them in conversation regarding various aspects of roots traditions.
The cast includes Sue Foley, National Dust, ex-Spirit of the West member Linda McCrae, Tim Williams, Stephen Fearing and Ralph Boyd Johnson, who brought along Billy Cowsill.
“I tried to be fairly diverse when it came to picking the talent,” said Greer the other day from her new home base in Los Angeles. Her background as a performer didn’t hurt when it came time to pick the talent, either.
