. . . to helping Louisiana musicians slammed by hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Blake Castille said Thursday that the night raised between $10,000 and $15,000 that will go straight into the pockets of musicians.
One of the recipients of Canadian generosity will be New Orleans drummer Russ Broussard, an Opelousas native who is married to Susan Cowsill. They met while playing in the Continental Drifters. Cowsill was a member of the family band, the Cowsills, that had a bunch of pop hits back in the 1970s. Susan lost her brother to Hurricane Katrina. His body was found four months after the levees broke. Broussard and Cowsill, who often play Lafayette clubs, were devastated financially and emotionally by the hurricane.
