Crew makes cut
The Sox drew one of the better umpiring crews for the series. Headed by crew chief Ed Montague, it also includes Larry Young (home plate today), Jerry Meals, Brian Runge, Gary Cederstrom and Kerwin Danley. For what it's worth, no member of the crew had a major run-in with the Sox this year. . . .
The Sox have pegged the Dropkick Murphys to perform the National Anthem prior to Game 3 on Friday at Fenway Park. The Cowsills are slated to handle the duties for Game 4 on Saturday. The Dropkicks last performed the anthem on July 24, now acclaimed as the turning point of the season following the brawl-marred, walk-off victory over the Yankees. . . .
The last time the Sox were at Angel Stadium in July, an aggravated New England transplant stood next to the visitors dugout between innings holding a sign that said ``Fire Francona.'' The manager simply looked at the man and smiled.
