TEMPE, Ariz. – Services were held here Sunday for Barbara C. Cowsill, 56, a member of the Cowsills soft-rock band popular in the 1960s.

Mrs. Cowsill died Thursday in her Tempe home after a long illness.

She teamed up with her daughter and five of her sons to form the singing group while the family was living in Middletown, R.I.

Between 1967 and 1970, the Cowsills recorded several hit songs, including “The Rain, the Park and Other Things,” “Indian lake,” “We Can Fly,” and the titles song for the rock musical “Hair.”

The group, which cut three gold records, also performed on several late-night talk shows and starred in a television special in 1968.

Survivors include her husband, William “Bud”; a daughter, Susan; 6 sons, William, Richard, Robert, Paul, Barry and John; her mother; 5 sisters; 3 brothers; and 11 grandchildren.
