Bud Cowsill, former Navy career man and "babysitter and governor" of The Cowsills, a hit recording group, is one who doesn't sing and what's more, he's an old-fashioned disciplinarian father. Did any of the kids rebel? "Every day. I don't think we'd be here if they didn't a little." Any ever threaten to leave? "Only me. I threaten," he says. But all seven have thrived, with no generation gap because firmness is tampered with "square words like love, understanding, communication." Dick, 18, and now in the Army, backs up his father. "Why else am I here taping with them when I'm on leave?"
