One of the better acts in town this Stampede happens to be on the same bill as Lang – and that’s Billy Cowsill.

Cowsill and his tight backup band delve into old rockabilly, rock ‘n’ roll and rhythm ‘n’ blues that captures the spirit of classic tunes from yore, such as Hello Mary Lou, I’m Movin’ On and Little Sister. As well, Cowsill has a strong penchant for Elvis Presley numbers from the ‘50s.

As he jokes on stage: “By the way, we mostly do dead guys, some dead girls and a few dead black guys too. No disrespect intended, but they’re dead. They’re gone and that just leaves more room for us.”

He first rose to fame in the ‘60s with The Cowsills, the group which inspired (for better or for worse) TV’s The Partridge Family. The Cowsills enjoyed such top 10 hits as The Rain, The Park & Other Things; Indian Lake and Hair.

That background stand him well, because Cowsill has an undeniable feel for the golden gems from pop’s more innocent years and is also blessed with an amazingly flexible voice which adapts itself to every pop song imaginable from that era.

Cowsill will also be performing Thursday through Saturday at O’Brien’s.
