The Co-Dependents Live Recording Event
(Indelible)
Rating:***1/2 out of four
Recorded at Calgary’s Mecca Café, Live Recording Event finds The Co-Dependents taking on country blues and rock ‘n’ roll classics with finesse.
Highlights include a trip to Bob Dylan’s Nashville in I’ll Be Your Baby Tonight; the moaning, pained vocal on Hank Williams’ Long Gone Lonesome Blues; and a countrified version of the Rolling Stones’ seething Out of Time, which slides perfectly into Far Away Eyes, one of Mick ‘n’ Keith’s great hillbilly ditties.
With originals such as Steve Pineo’s Mississippi Saxophone and Billy Cowsill’s Vagabond holding their own, The Co-Dependents proves it’s one of Calgary’s richest musical resources. By the time the band tears into Bye Bye Johnny, one can fully appreciate the crowd’s cries of “encore!”
