While the juke box in The Bear blast out the sounds of The Cowsills’ “Hair” and “Aquarius / Let the Sunshine In” by the Fifth Dimension word is getting around that both songs came from some Broadway musical comedy where a bunch of long-haired types proclaim of life in hippiedom, occasionally throwing in a dirty word or two.
Thought it is somewhat difficult to believe the Cowsill Family Singers “really mean just what they say” about “long, beautiful hair,” the offering of the original cast is much more real and convincing. And when viewed in the light of some of the other lyrics in the production letting your hair grow out seems rather mild.
