NEWPORT — Wouldn’t it be nice … if this summer’s Beach Boys show at Naval Station Newport goes as well as Huey Lewis and the News did last year?
. . .
The Newport show also will be a homecoming for Beach Boys drummer John Cowsill, born and raised in Newport. Cowsill’s family band, the Cowsills, sent four hits — including “Hair” and “The Rain, the Park and Other Things” — into the Top 40 from 1967-69.
The Cowsills have played Newport several times since 1991, with the full group performing at the Newport Yachting Center in 2000. That’s the year John Cowsill, who is married to ex-Bangle Vicki Peterson, started playing with Love’s group, on keyboards and drums.
While Cowsill has played hundreds of shows in Newport since he was a teenager, this will be his first local show with a band other than the Cowsills.
