The Cowsills are continuing to run a nationwide search for brother Barry, missing in New Orleans in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, but a media blitz has brought no clues about the 51-year-old musician.

Family members have appeared on CNN, "Inside Edition" and Fox News and they sent out a press release to 1,400 media outlets. Howard Stern has mentioned Barry Cowsill on his nationally syndicated radio show.

"The truth is we haven't had a (Web site) hit and Barry still hasn't called," Bob Cowsill said via e-mail this week.

Barry Cowsill had been living in Newport, where he spent his childhood, the past few years. He moved to New Orleans, where he's previously lived, last summer. His sister, Susan, also lives in New Orleans and was away when Katrina hit.

She returned to the city a week or so after Katrina and looked for her brother at his old apartment and spoke with people who knew him.

He called her on Sept. 2, in the immediate aftermath of the storm, saying he was in a warehouse and there was "a lot of lootin' and a lot of shootin' going on" around him.

That was the last time anyone heard from him. Bob Cowsill said he had spoken to representatives from the Federal Emergency Management Agency who told him that they were still finding survivors.

"The scenarios are dwindling, but as long as we have them, we keep going, stay alert and operate under the assumption that today will be the day he'll call," Bob Cowsill said.

The Cowsills, a family band that inspired "The Partridge Family" TV show, enjoyed a burst of popularity from 1967 to 1970, with such hits as "Hair" and "The Rain, the Park and Other Things" hitting the top 10.

The family lived in Newport and Middletown in the 1960s, when the Cowsills broke as a national pop act.

The group has reunited for Newport shows, mostly at the Newport Yachting Center, in the last dozen years, and Barry Cowsill performed in local bars for the past two.
