"He lived life to the fullest."
"He was a very likeable person."
"Very personable."
These are some of the comments we've heard from long-time Plum Islanders fondly remembering their late friend, Barry Cowsill. News of his death reached this area last week, after Barry's body was identified by the medical examiner in Baton Rouge. He is believed to be a victim of the aftermath from Hurricane Katrina.
A member of the '60s and '70s singing family, The Cowsills, Barry was a frequent patron of the Beachcoma in its Plum Island heyday during the '80s and '90s
The Partridge Family was modeled after the Cowsill family, whose singing members besides Barry included his mother, Barbara; sister, Susan; and brothers, Bill, Bob, John and Paul. Another brother, Richard, joined the group during later reunion gigs, and his father, Bud, managed the group for a while. Among The Cowsills' more familiar hits are "The Rain, the Park and Other Things" and "Hair."
Barry Cowsill is predeceased by his parents. According to a published report, there was no funeral, memorial service or wake. Barry Cowsill's ashes were said to be scattered on Halidon Hall in Newport, R.I., the site of his childhood home.
