The government is responsible for the gate crashing at a recent aborted Rhode Island Jazz Festival, according to Greg Allman, organist for the Allman Brothers, a blues - rock group playig the Steel Pier Ballroom.

. . .

The Allman Brothers, enticing to the ear of blues - rock lovers, misunderstood, loud and perhaps boring to others are in the middle of a six day billing complementing the Cowsills.

. . .

The same question (about lyrics being hard to understand) was asked the Cowsills after singing their mouthful hit song 'Hair' from the as-named rock musical.

"It is a wordy song," replied Mrs. Cowsill, once stage-shy mother of five musicians who sang their way from the shower to the stage. "We're not so sure most parents would like to hear the words anyway." (Gimme a head with hair, long beautiful hair . . . )

The Cowsills round out a Music Hall show, deserving special mention, although one wished the Cowsills might do more of their own songs and as well as they did those of other artists.

. . .

Clear chorded 'You've Got a Friend,' James Taylor's hit, written by Carol King, emitted from the Cowsills as did Carol King's 'Its Too Late,' featuring young Susan Cowsill, another in a family of extroverts.

"The secret to both James Taylor and Carol King is their simplicity, said Bob Cowsill.
