1. The first publicity photo a new group called The Cowsills posed for was taken in 1967. Some people thought the group — consisting of Bill, Bob, Barry, John and Mini-Mom Barbara - was strictly a one-record, one-hit sensation. They couldn't have been further from the truth. 2. The Cowsill kids always had fun together. Even little sister Susie, who really wasn't part of the group, got into the playful act. 3. At recording sessions, the two oldest boys, Bill and Bob, often took charge. They liked to be able to be musically creative and help the group make the best records they could. Meanwhile, 4. back at the big house in Newport, Rhode Island, Susie kept busy "cooking." She was the first to admit, though, that her "cooking" was more like playing and that if a dish turned out right, it was more of a surprise to her than to anyone else. 5. Big brother Bill was the first to try his hand at song-writing. And little by little, the group began to record his material and make use of his ideas. 6. Susie's happiest day arrived when she was finally allowed to be part of the group. This is one of her first on-stage appearances, but she was already right at home and posed. 7. Barry and John emerged right away as the main heart-throbs of the group. And this cute publicity shot certainly shows why. 8. In 1969, just one short year after their first record came out, the group appeared at the San Remo Song Festival in Italy. The trip was one of the highlights of their lives and they still talk about the things they did and the people they met today. 9. Life became even more hectic for The Cowsills after that. Here's John trying to catch up on some school work while grabbing a quick snack before getting on with the business of recording. It was hard on the kids, but they loved every minute of it. 10. Bud Cowsill, father of the talented clan, was kept busy managing the business affairs of the group. He's so wrapped up in what he's doing here, he doesn't even notice the photographer! 11. Moving from Rhode Island to Santa Monica, California, was a big step for The Cowsills. But the house they loved so much was just too old, too run-down and too out-of-the-way. Here they are in front of their new home shortly after making the move. Although the kids admitted they didn't feel at home right away, they soon began to appreciate the California sun. 12. Last summer, Bob Cowsill followed in the footsteps of his older brother Bill and became a married man. He and his bride, Nanci, are as happy as two people in love can be. 13. The group as it is today - Paul, Barry, John, Susie and Bob (Bill left to concentrate on record producing) - are just as fun-loving and family-loving as ever. And there's no doubt things will remain the same as long as birds sing and flowers bloom.
