The Cowsills, a family band formed in 1965 by brothers Bill, Bob, John and Barry Cowsill in Newport, Rhode Island, then expanded to include sister, Susan, brother Paul, and mother, Barbara, before recording a string of pop hits, was inducted to the California Music Hall of Fame during a ceremony April 14 in Temecula.
Beginning with 1967's "The Rain The Park & Other Things" (#2 on Billboard, #1 on Cash Box that November), the group recorded a handful of hits including "Indian Lake," "Hair" and "We Can Fly." They are famously cited as the inspiration for the '70s TV sitcom "The Partridge Family."
Now comprised of Susan, Bob and Paul, their most-recent album, Rhythm of the World, was reviewed in VG's February '23 issue. They continue to tour, with nearly 40 dates scheduled through August. They area also members of the Rhode Island Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the New England Music Hall of Fame.
