First Special Coming Nov. 23
The Cowsills, the celebrated singing family (above), will star in their own special on NBC Nov. 23 (8:30-9 p.m.) when they will preempt "The Ghost and Mrs. Muir". The Cowsills will sing songs from their large repertoire of popular tunes and folk ballads. Less than a year ago the Cowsills were little known outside of their hometown - Newport, R.I. They were "discovered" by Leonard Stogel, their current manager, and made their network television debut on the Ed Sullivan show Oct. 27, 1967.
In February, they were featured on the morning "Today" show. Since then they have toured the world, recorded several best selling albums, including their latest, "Captain Sad and His Ship of Fools."
Bud Cowsill, a 20-year Navy man now retired, organized the group that features his wife, Barbara, and six of their seven children. The boys in the picture above are (left to right) Johnny, 11; Barry, 13; Paul, 16; Bob, 18, and Bill, 20. At center, next to her mother, is daughter Susie, 8, holding a remarkable life-life doll. Bob's twin, Dick, who was the group's former road manager, is now in the Army.
