Back in May we marked the Georgia Straight’s golden anniversary by listing 50 of our favorite local albums from the past half-century. As you might expect, limiting our pics to one LP from each year meant that not all readers were pleased with the results.

The Blue Shadows “Coming On Strong” (1993) “Hank Williams goes to the Cavern Club” is how Billy Cowsill and Jeffrey hatcher described their brief but miraculous collaboration as the Blue Shadows. The instant classic strongly suggests that the Everly Brothers were tagging along, too.
The band split after a second album Lucky to Me, with Jeffrey Hatcher continuing with the Jeffrey Hatcher Band and Cowsill playing with the band The Co-Dependents as well as doing production work before passing away in 2006.
