Can you imagine what it would be like to be the only girl amongst six brothers? Some of you might think "Wow! How groovy! There'd be something happening all the time!" You're right—You'd never get bored. But there are two sides to any story.

An expert on the subject of brothers is Susan Cowsill, just about the bounciest, happiest super-sister any six guys could ask for! She digs finger-painting, singing her heart out when she performs with the whole troop and rough-housing with her outasite brothers. She may be only eight years old, but she has a lot of opinions about her musical mates!

"They sure tease me a lot! And do you know why they tease me? Because I'm the only girl. Barry and John tease me the most because if they did it to the big guys, it wouldn't be any fun. Bob, Bill, Dick and Paul can take it and fight back, So they gang up on me.

PAYS THEM BACK

"Sometimes all six of them get going and they even hit me—but it doesn't really hurt. They just do it in a kidding way because I makes big fuss and they like to see me get all frustrated. But then I just go tell on them. I've told Mom and Dad on all of them because that's usually the only way I can fight back. Then they call me a tattle-tale and guess they're right!

"But sometimes I can tease them, too! Like one time we were in the kitchen and some girls were there drinking Cokes with Bill and Bob. So Barry and John and I kept going out, then coming back in and whispering "Lover Boy!" Bill said to cut it out and get out of the kitchen. It was really funny!

"We have a lot of groovy times together, though. We have make-believe fights, where I'll run up to Bill or Bob and he'll grab me and swing me up in the air and over his head—all those things big brothers do to little sisters.

PROBLEM-SOLVER

"Whenever I have a problem, I can go to Bill and talk to him about it. He's pretty old, twenty, and really smart! He usually has answer. When the group was all getting ready to go on tour, he told me if I learned a song I could come too. So I did and now I think I'll probably be a singer all my life!

"Our house in Newport, Rhode Island is real big. It has twenty three rooms and it's three stories high. It's the best place to play games like Hide-and-Go-Seek because there are all sorts of places to hide. You know, sometimes I think they're putting me on when

we play because Barry and John always seem to know just where I'm hiding, but Bob and Bill hardly ever find me. I think they know where I am but they pretend they don't so I won't feel bad. They're too much!

"We don't have any furniture in the living-room, just our music stuff and that's where we practice every day. But we have important things like a ping-pong table and a pool table. Every once in awhile the guys will let me play and maybe someday I can beat them! They're pretty good at sports though. John's on a basketball team at school, Barry's on the football team and Bob's always going to football games.

SUMMERTIME FUN

"Outside there's kind of a forest and when the weather's warm I help my brothers build clubhouses and tree houses. Sometimes they say I get in the way, but they usually let me hang around and carry stuff for them or hand them nails.

"There are so many things to do around our place. We play with our dog Curly, go sailboating and swimming at the beach. That's really fun, especially when I start covering up the guys with sand. When I do that though, I usually end up getting dunked in the water or else Barry or John will chase me with a lobster or something. Then I start screaming and running, but I don't know why because they'd never hurt me.

"In the wintertime, we all go outside and play in the snow. Sometimes I can get one of the big guys to pull me on my sled or help me build a snowman. And we always have a good snowball fight. Then we go inside to get warm and watch TV and sing. Christmas is the best time of all, when we get together around the tree and sing carols.

"We always have a good time on tour too. I like it when the guys all start singing Beatle songs when we're on the bus. They are fab singers! Bob is always saying 'We're the happiest group when we get together' and he's right!

"When we were in California, we visited Disneyland. I think Bill, Bob, Dick and Paul had just as much fun as Barry and John and I did! We rode on all the rides and ate all kinds of junk like hot dogs and cotton candy.

"I remember one time on tour that was really funny, but it didn't seem funny when it happened. Mom always takes roll call when we get back on the bus after we stop someplace, because there's so many of us. We don't want to leave anybody behind.

BILL'S LOST!

"Well, one night, after a show, we all got in the bus and started going down the road. Mom began calling roll and when she got to Bill's name, he didn't answer. We stopped the bus and got out and there was Bill, running down the street after the bus!

"When he got on he was huffing and puffing. He said 'I was thinking to myself, 'They wouldn't leave the lead singer.' Then I thought 'Oh yes they would!' and I ran twice as fast!' We all laughed about that for a long time afterwards, especially since Mom made up the rule about the roll call because she was afraid one of us little kids, like John or me, would get left behind. And it turned out to be Bill!

"Sometimes I think I'd rather have a sister than all those boys around me. But then I think of all the groovy, fun times we have together and I know I wouldn't trade. They're the best brothers a girl could ever have. And most of the time being the only girl is OK! Only I sure wish they wouldn't tease me!"
