Cowsills

Paul "gets away from it all" by pulling his shirt over his head. The others agree that's a super idea, as long as it's Paul's head!

Cowsills

According to Barry, little sisters should be seen and not heard. But he knows from experience you can't keep Susie down for long.

Cowsills

"Don't push a future astronaut into the pool," says John. But as usual, it's too late already.

THE COWSILLS are always on the go! In their many tours, they’ve been around the world and back, meeting and entertaining their fans. But there are still a few special places The Cowsills dream about that they’ve never seen. And if you have nothing special to do, you can come, too – if you want to run away with The Cowsills…..

You’d expect John Cowsill to run away to a place that’s really out of this world. And you’d be right, because the place John would most like to go is the moon! “And not just the moon,” John says, “I’d like to visit a few other planets, too.”

John’s dream is to become an astronaut and explore outer space on his own spaceship. (At the rate things are going, it’s a dream that could come true before long.) Right now, though, he enjoys flying when The Cowsills go on tour, but he thinks ordinary airplanes are pretty tame. His spaceship would be something else!

John thinks he’d enjoy walking around on planets whose different gravity would make him much lighter or heavier than he is on Earth. And he looks forward to moments of floating around weightless in his spaceship. But there’s still another reason John wants to visit the moon – he likes cheese!

While John’s walking in space or exploring new planets, Barry would be going in the opposite direction. The place he wants most to see is the bottom of the ocean. Barry’s a good skin-diver, so he’s already spent a lot of time underwater. But he’d like to go much further down – to the deepest part of the ocean.

“It’s a whole different life down there,” Barry says. “There are lots of strange fish and plants we don’t know anything about. The fish may even have special ways of communicating with each other.”

In the future, Barry thinks we’ll be getting a lot more of our food from the bottom of the sea. Maybe someday people will even live there. And you can bet Barry’ll be there, at least for a visit.

If Susie Cowsill runs away, the place you’d most likely find her would be an enormous ranch with lots of horses. Horses are Susie’s favorite animals, and she dreams of having one of her own someday. In fact, she’d like to have lots of them.

On her dream ranch Susie would spend a lot of the day riding. She’d be “up with the chickens” to feed her horses and maybe even milk the cows! There’d be lots of other animals to take care of, too – dogs, cats, chickens, sheep. When the sun went down, Susie and her friends would eat dinner at a real chuck wagon. They’d finish the day singing cowboy songs to the accompaniment of guitars. (Wouldn’t you like to be there?)

Paul would like to run away to a place that’s quiet and relaxing where he can just “get away from it all” – an island, for instance. Paul’s island would be sunny and tropical, with lots of banana and cocoanut trees, so he could pick fruit right off them. There would be calm, secluded beaches where he could take a lazy swim, too.

Paul wants to find an island that has no cars and televisions, maybe even no electricity! He’d like to be able to get away from civilization, though after awhile he’d be glad to get back!

When Bob goes off on a trip to his special place, he’ll be taking someone else along – his lovely new bride, Nanci. Bob likes the idea of spending some time in a cabin high in the mountains. Maybe there’d be a stream nearby where he and Nanci could go fishing, and there’d be forests with lots of animals to make friends with. They’d have fun hiking along mountain paths and roasting hot dogs over an open fire, too.

Bob’s ideas about places to run away to aren’t quite as wild as those of the other Cowsills, but they’re just as much fun. Don’t you think so?
