The biography of the Cowsill family reads like a fairy tale - there they were, nine people in a huge 22 room house in Long Island New York, with a grass-overgrown overgrown yard, a 1917-vintage stove for cooking, no heat and the mortgage about to be foreclosed. All they had was each other and a love of music.
So in a last desperate move they decided to put their love of music on the line, went to New York and there met the people who, in the span of a few short weeks, made the Cowsills one of the hottest musical properties on the American scene. The trouble with the above biography is that it's not a made up fairy tale - it's true. It's the cavalry coming in the nick of time to save the settlers from the Indians all over again!
Of course, because the Cowsills' sudden meteoric rise to fame came only after many hardships, they've managed to avoid the curse of groups who have had everthing too easy, and thus have remained unspoiled and friendly.

Bill Cowsill has to return to college.
As a result, too, their sessions in the recording studio, and their appearances on television still have a fairy tale quality about them to the Cowsills; everything is still a wonder and wonderful.
Their recent trip to Europe was no exception, and in general all had a wonderful time, refusing to let small incidents (such as the time in London when they were ejected from the coffee shop of their hotel for singing at the table, and so had to eat breakfast in their rooms) upset them. Italy was a special thrill, as when they sang at the San Remo Song Festival. (All except Bill, who had to go back to the States to go to Pace College where he is an English major. 16 year old Paul sat in for Bill, but since they don't really look alike, Paul was dubbed "The Imposter Cowsill" by the Italians!)
But traveling, rehearsing, recording or whatever, the Cowsills are a groovy group (family? dynasty? corporation?)
