Barry Cowsill, 51, of the popular Sixties family band the Cowsills, was found dead on December 28th on a wharf in New Orleans. Authorities believe the singer perished in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Cowsill reportedly left phone messages for his sister Susan from New Orleans on September 1st, and he was never heard from again. Billed as "America's First Family of Music," the sunshine pop group was the inspiration for the hit television series The Partridge Family. The Cowsills had two Number Two hits, "The Rain, the Park and Other Things" and a cover of the title track for the 1968 hit rock musical Hair. They broke up in the early Seventies. Cowsill continued to record: he most recently release Barry Cowsill: As Is in 1998. He had been preparing to record a new album at the time of his death.
