CAPTAIN SAO AND HIS SHIP OF FOOLS
THE COWSILLS-MGM SE 4554.
Happy singing from the family singing group that must have some time around the dinner table. Wes Farrell, Bob and Bill Cowsill produced the package. "Indian Lake" and a host of new tunes like "Bridge" mark a top package. Solos by all.

Notes From The Underground

SHE is not into extreme hard rock. As a matter of fact her format falls somewhere between extreme radio experimentation and Top 40. Probably lots closer to Top 40. What program director Ron Elz prefers to call progressive, if he has to define it. For instance regular charting of the top 97 singles and top 97 albums, 97 being the stations frequency spot. Last week the singles included what amounted to a semi -1 hard derivation of national charts, naturally leaving out the Vintons, Cowsills and Gary Lewises: "Hello, I Love You," Doors; "Sunshine of Your Love," Cream; "You Keep Me Hangin' On," Vanilla Fudge; "Journey to the Center of My Mind," Amboy Dukes; "Born to Be Wild," Steppenwolf; "Pictures of Matchstick Men," Status Quo; "Animal," the Tokens; "Hurdy Gurdy Man," Donovan; "Light My Fire," Jose Feliciano; and "On the Road Again," Canned Heat.

Alouette Productions Grows

NEW YORK - Kelli Ross Art Wayne, President and VP, respectively, of Alouette Productions, announce two additions to their growing publishing compound.

They have just signed deals to administrate Artie Resnick and Joey Levine's publishing firm Peanut Butter Music which includes the current Ohio Express smash, "Down at Lulu's," and the newly released, and much talked about "You Got the Love" by Professor Morrison's Lollipop. Both produced by Resnick and Levine for Super K. Productions.

Dan Elliot, co -producer of Jerry Jeff Walker's "Mr. Bojangles," has also brought his Danel Music into Alouette fold for administration and exploitation. Elliot, who recently signed with Columbia as an artist under the direction of Jimmy Wisner, has signed some "very heavy production deals" which will be announced shortly.

Between these and the other Alouette affiliates which include Quincy Jones' Earth Music, Inc., Lesley Gore's Buffee Music, Inc., Dialogue Music (which boasts the exclusive writing talents of Janis Ian) and the wholly owned Tattersall Music Company, they are racking up an impressive list of recordings released or soon -to -be -released by Hugh Masekela, the 'Cowsills, the Cherry People, Lesley Gore, the Good Rats, the Kasenetz-Katz Orchestral Circus, the U. S. Males, Ray Charles, Vivian Reed, Aesops Fabels and the Ohio Express, among others.
