MGM Singles Bix Up 500%
MGM Records is enjoying an
upsurge in single business and
Mort Nasatir, President, reports
that the four weeks ending
June 14 comprised one of
the best-selling periods for
MGM singles sales in the past
few months.
Lenny Scheer, MGM Label
Manager, says that the single
business has increased over
500% and that the company is
moving rapidly from a soft single
sales period into a hot -selling
summer season. Scheer estimates
that after the Las Vegas
Sales Convention at Caesar's
Palace this week there will be
a further boost in single sales
for the MGM label division.
Phil Picone, Single Sales
Manager for the MGM label,
pinpoints the selling splurge,
crediting such artists and titles
as the Cowsills' "Indian Lake,"
Eric Burdon's "Sky Pilot," the
Magistrates' "Here Comes the
Judge," Connie Francis' "Somebody
Else is Taking My Place,"
Wayne Newton's "Dreams of an
Everyday Housewife," Roy Or -
bison's "Walk On," Herman's
Hermits' "Sleepy Joe," Bill
Medley's "Brown Eyed Woman,"
the Lovin' Spoonful's
"Never Going Back" and "God
Bless Our Love" by the Ballads
on the Venture label.
