The soft hazel eyes, framed by thick eyebrows and a shaggy fringe of bangs, light up with a sudden twinkle when a quick smile flashes across his face! His serious expression melts a little as he talks of things that make him happiest!
For Barry Cowsill, happiness is "having a good time with my friends!" Friendship is something that Barry feels is one of the grooviest things around. In fact, if you ask him what he considers to be the saddest times in his life, he'll tell you it's "being without friends and not having a good time!"
COME IN HANDY
The shortest of the Cowsills boys, Barry stands 5'8" and weighs 125 lbs. He says the nicest thing about having so many brothers is that "they come in handy when you want to be with someone. You don't even have to go out of the house to find a friend!"
Though Barry says a large family definitely has its good points, "Sometimes everyone can get on your nerves because the minute you go somewhere to be alone, someone else comes around!" But what Barry does enjoy is the many discussions he has with his brothers. "We all like to sit down together in one of the bedrooms and just talk about things like our dates or girls!"
Girls is one subject that Barry definitely is interested in! Although he doesn't talk about it too much, he does admit that there are certain qualities that the does look for in a girl!
"A girl should be able to go anywhere with you on the spur of the moment and just have lots of fun. Being spontaneous is very important." Barry also likes girls who don't "talk all the time" especially when it isn't necessary. He feels that there are times when words aren't needed and just walking together is sometimes enough!
ALWAYS BUSY
Of course Barry doesn't have to much time to date since the Cowsills are always busy recording, touring or practicing! Then there's always school studies to fill in the extra time. One thing Barry does like to do is date some of his fans. "It all depends on what she's like," he smiles.
Many times in the past Barry has dated girls he really liked and who he thought liked him just as a person only to find out that they only wanted to be going with one of the Cowsills! Once a girl he dated asked if she could take pictures of him and he was really pleased. Later he found out she had made prints of them to sell!
Many stars of course have this same problem, but as sensitive as Barry is, it really hurts him. "It's difficult to go around half the time wondering if people like you for yourself or for your name!"
Lately Barry has become very interested in astrology and anything having to do with the mystic or supernatural! "Ouija boards, seances and mysterious people are really outasite!" Barry says.
GETTING UP LATE
Getting up late and going to bed late is something Barry would love to do, though he doesn't always get a chance! Mini-Mom makes sure the whole family gets enough sleep. "She always gets me up early, too," Barry sighs. "She's great though, and she never gets in the way. She's really cool!" Barry says that there is no such thing as a generation gap between him and his parents. "We get along just beautifully."
Television is a favorite pastime of Barry's when he can squeeze it in! He likes to watch "Bewitched" and "Here Come The Brides" though he says his favorite show is any kind of horror program like "Chiller" or the old reruns of "Outer Limits." "I really think they do a tremendous job on those monsters!"
Of course where ever you may find Barry you can bet he'll almost always have a root beer in his hand. "It's my fave drink," he'll tell you. Other favorites of his include Thanksgiving "because I love turkey and pumpkin pie," the color yellow, Los Angeles and old jeans!
In fact, jeans are almost all Barry likes to wear around the house. "They're casual and comfortable and you just can be yourself in them,"he says. And this is something that is very important to Barry - being yourself no matter who you are with!
