Bringing up seven kids is worth a citation in itself. But bringing up seven kids the way Barbara and Bud Cowsill have deserves an OUTACITATION!
The seven Cowsill kids, Dick, Bill, Bob, Paul, Barry, John and Susie - are normal, happy, healthy and well-behaved. Considering that they were uprooted often to keep up with their Navy-officer dad and that they were always the center of attraction because of their performing ability, their parents are to be cheered.
Barbara Cowsill never tried to make stars out of her kids. She never wanted them to be anything but themselves. Love and family unity were all that ever counted to her. That's why, after 20 years of being a housewife and mother, she became a performing member of the Cowsills when they went professional. She didn't care about glamor; all she wanted was to be with her family, so they would stay a real family.
Bud Cowsill is the head of the clan - and his family knows it! He's the backbone, the decision-maker, the disciplinarian. But he stays out of the way - lets the kids express themselves. Though he's in his 40's, he can get just as excited over a new pop tune or happening as his teenage sons. The family likes to call him the oldest teenager they know.
OUTASITE!, therefore, awards this months' OUTACITATION to Barbara and Bud Cowsill for giving America a family it can truly be proud of, and for being parents who think young and act sensibly.
