The editors of OUTASITE! finally gave me my chance to sound off. You see, they know how jealous I was getting because my goofy brothers got all the neat chances to fill you in on what's happening to us.
TRIP TO ENGLAND
Dad told us that we would get the chance to go to England a long time ago. We believed it just because he said it. Well, we went and it was OUTASITE! We met the Stones, Beatles, Procol Harum and lots of other groups. MGM Records threw a big press party for us and all the DJ's, TV and press people turned up to hear us perform and ask us a lot of questions.
BILL MEETS LULU
My brother Bill met Lulu and boy, did he ever dig her! I think the biggest thrill for us was meeting the Beatles. They're just as cool as ever and I think they dug our sound, too.
MUSICAL BREAKFAST!
One funny thing happened in London! The first morning we were there, we went to the restaurant of the hotel for breakfast. Well, we were waiting for them to bring our food, and we had the guitars with us, so naturally we started singing! This waiter came up and told us to stop making noise. So Mom (she's really cool sometimes!) said "It isn't noise. It's music!" But the waiter said that either we stopped or we'd have to leave. So we left and had breakfast in our room!
DISAPPOINTMENT
We were originally scheduled to stay in London for two weeks, and do some TV appearances. But we couldn't because Sue and Barry and I are too young for British work permits - or something like that.
TO SAN REMO
When we left England we went to San Remo as one of the United States' entries for the San Remo festival. We sang "Le Opere di Bartolomeo." I just had to ask Bill how to spell that one! Also, we released "We Can Fly" in Italian and I think you'll forgive me if I don't try and spell that for you. San Remo was pretty cold, but the people were just about the greatest. They talked with us and even said that they would like to visit our home in Newport one day. I hope they do! The Beach Boys were at the Festival too and Bill and Bob spent hours talking to them about music. Barry, Sue and I just listened!
BILL NEARLY STAYED
From San Remo we went to Milan, Rome and Bologna for TV and radio promotion and press parties. Bill decided that he wanted to live in Italy because he loved the people so much.
SUE FLIPPED!
Sue met the love of her life when we were in Rome. He was the son of one of the DJ's - he was 10 years old and an hour after they met, Sue was sitting next to him, just staring and in my opinion, all the mush was disgusting! Anyway, the romance never got very far because we were only there two days. Sue doesn't feel that bad - she's still got Davy Jones!
MISSING COWSILLS
Bill and Bob and Dick went out on dates one night in Rome and got lost trying to come back to the hotel. Honestly, of all the goofy things to do. They're supposed to be big guys impressing girls and all that and what do they do? Get lost! They finally asked a policeman - Bill speaks a little Italian - and he directed them back to the hotel. I'll bet those girls didn't think they were so hot.
HOME SWEET HOME
Finally, we got back to New York on February 11th and after all that traveling, I have to admit it was good to be home again. In April we're going to Disneyland for four days to perform and then we'll be at the Steel Pier at the end of July.
I have to work extra hard now catching up with my school work. Barry and Sue, too. Bill and Bob are the lucky ones - they don't start until the end of February. But it's good to be back with the gang at school, too. When you get right down to it, I guess my life doesn't differ that much from yours - I eat, sleep, go to school and work. As long as you're happy doing what you're best at, that's all that matters. That's what Dad tells us.
Well, cool ones, (Dick is telling me to quit acting like such a wise guy) talk to you soon. If you'd like to write to us, write to: Cowsills, Box 788, Radio City Station, New York 10019. We read all our fan mail and try to answer as much of it as we can. Honest!
