Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys passed away June 11 at age 82, just two days after fellow Californian Sly Stone of Sly and the Family Stone left us at the same age. We remember Wilson with five Beach Boys flip sides and conclude with a Sly and the Family Stone flip side.

"I Get Around" was the first No. 1 gold single for the group. "Don't Worry Baby," as a flip side, charted separately with a peak at No. 24, and in 1977, B.J. Thomas brought it back to the Top 40 where it reached No. 17 as his fourteenth and final Top 40 hit. Harmonies were key on both sides of The Beach Boys original single. Bob Cowsill told Goldmine, "Brian Wilson's influence on The Cowsills began when we were children growing up, especially listening to 'I Get Around' and 'Don't Worry Baby' at Second Beach in Middletown, Rhode Island during the summer of '64. His influence on us continued through Pet Sounds and beyond, right up to his passing. He taught us everything about harmony and more importantly, vocal arrangements. His legacy will of course continue beyond all of us but that we crossed paths with Brian Wilson and rode out his entire career right with him and ride alongside him learning from him all along the way is his very special legacy when it comes to the Cowsills."
