SEPTEMBER 18
CHARLOTTE, N.C.
Arrived in Charlotte, at the Barringer Inn, at approximately 3:30 a.m.
We had played mad libs on the bus to pass the time. It's a crazy kind of a game whereby the participants supply nouns, adjectives, adverbs and names of people on the bus to complete funny stories. We were rolling in the aisles laughing.
Left Charlotte right after the reception that evening to go to Atlanta, Ga. The reception at the Barringer Inn had been tremendous. The people in the South are living examples of Southern hospitality.
SEPTEMBER 19
ATLANTA, GA.
Arrived in Atlanta in the wee hours of the morning and checked into the Marriott Hotel to find 20 teenage girls waiting in the lobby for us. The local pop station had been announcing our arrival for days and the girls told us: "We wanted to be the first people to welcome the Cowsills to Atlanta."
After the reception that evening, in the Grand Ballroom of the Marriott, the guests demanded encore after encore, so the boys played for more than an hour after the initial show had ended.
SEPTEMBER 20
BIRMINGHAM, ALA.
Left Atlanta about 11:00 a.m. and arrived in Birmingham at 2:00 p.m.
We stayed at the Parliament House which takes up over three blocks in Birmingham and is very luxurious.
We did a local TV show that afternoon and when we got back to the hotel we all took a dip in the pool.
The reception was at poolside that evening and, aside from the fact that three victims had to be dragged out of the pool after falling in, everything went fine.
SEPTEMBER 21
NASHVILLE, TENN.
Off at 8:00 a.m. for the six hour drive to Nashville. This was a very exciting trip for the group as they had heard so much about Nashville being the music capitol.
The show that evening at the Ramada Inn was an unqualified success. We received a standing ovation and we were happy since we had been told: "If you can get them in Nashville you're got it made."
SEPTEMBER 22
MIAMI, FLA.
Following a last minute change of plans in our schedule, we flew to Miami instead of driving. We had a three hour stop over in Atlanta so we did a bit of sightseeing.
At 4:30 p.m. flying over Miami, we ran into the worst storm of the season and our plane circled for an hour without being able to make a landing.
The part that evening was at the Band Box in the Doral Beach Hotel.
SEPTEMBER 23
MIAMI, FLA.
Free Day! The boys spent the day sunning, surfing and resting. Little Sue practiced her high dives in the pool, under her big brother's supervision, of course.
SEPTEMBER 24
NEW ORLEANS, LA.
Left Miami at 8:00 a.m. for the tedious 15 hour drive to New Orleans. We had the choice of flying or driving but we decided we wanted to see the countryside.
We arrived in New Orleans at 1:30 a.m. and spent an hour trying to locate our hotel, the Royal Orleans which is in the French Quarter.
