The Cowsills

When The Cowsills signed the contract to do ABC-TV's Operation Entertainment, little did they know the groovy surprise that was in store for them! You see, ABC chose to tape this particular show at Ft. Gordon in Augusta, Ga. - and that just happens to be where Dick Cowsill (Bob's twin) is in training! Eighteen-year-old Dick enlisted in the Army in March, and the rest of the family hadn't seen him for over two months. Since this was the first time they had been separated from Dick, they missed him terribly. You can imagine how over joyed they were at their surprise "Family Reunion"!

Of course, they talked for hours. Here Dick explains that he banged up his face on the obstacle course during basic training. But he's all better now.

Another reason this particular day (May 20) was special was cus Susie celebrated her ninth birthday. A party was thrown in her honor, natch!

The Cowsills

The Cowsills performed before 16,000 soldiers. Here we see them on stage belting out a swingin' number.

For this very special occasion, Dick joins the rest of the Cowsills in song. Remember, Dick was their road manager before he joined the Army, and he had never appeared on stage before!

Be sure to watch the Cowsills on ABC-TV's Operation Entertainment on October 14, and share their fab first "Family Reunion"! You can write to Dick as follows: Pvt. Richard Cowsill, CO-D 6th BN, 2nd TNG-BDE, Ft. Gordon, Georgia 30905.
