The Cowsills

It’s E-Z and it’s FUN!

ONCE UPON A TIME there was a groovy little stuffed lion and an adorable little stuffed mouse. The groovy little stuffed lion was bright burnt orange (with a beautiful white chest and a darling black nose, of course) and had a simply WILD (!) in-a-state-of-shock, electric mane that was exactly the color of fire! The adorable little stuffed mouse was all super-soft gray, but escaped the conservative label by wearing an extremely bright red and white striped outfit – not to mention his long curly-curly tail (which he could also use as a broom or a dust mop, in a pinch).

Anyway, the groovy lion grew up to have an expression of happy fulfillment permanently stamped on his face. And well eh should, for his master – you (and oh so handsome) Mr. Barry. S. Cowsill – had the habit of kissing him at least once in the morning and twice at night! The adorable mouse on the other hand (or paw, as it were) grew up to have a marvelously mischievous look forever emblazoned upon his fabulous features. And that is quite in order too, for his master – the one and only Mr. John P. Cowsill, Esq. – had the splendid habit of telling dear mousey ALL of his real-an’-truly secret secrets, plus which he taught him all sorts of stunning tricks to play on others – and the fine art of lion-tail-pulling was not the least of these!

One lovely sunny morning Barry said to John (as they both were poring over stacks of the many letters they get from all you 16-Spec-ers, “Somehow, it just doesn’t seem fair. We get so very many wonderful letters and we have the pleasure of reading them all, but we can’t possibly answer every one of them. What, oh, what dear (?) Johnny can we do?”

As Johnny sat in serious thought for a moment (trying his very Sunday best to come up with an absolutely brilliant answer to Barry’s very meaningful question), his eyes suddenly fell upon the groovy stuffed lion and the adorable stuffed mouse – lifetime (well, almost) pals of B. and J. Cowsill, Inc.

“Hey,” Johnny hey-ed, “I have the answer! Why don’t we donate our lion and mouse to 16 Spec-ers who are Cowsill-luvvers! In order to win our lion and mouse – let’s see, what could they do?”

And Barry’s baby-browns suddenly blazed with inspiration. “We could let them name the lion and mouse!” he blurted.

“Brilliant, my dear Watson!” Johnny exclaimed, recalling that for some obscure and deep dark reason B. and J. had never actually gotten around to making up a monicker for either the groovy lion or the adorable mouse. “And,” Johnny continued, “if they want – we’ll throw in a for-honest-read-personal-like-autographed photo of our funny faces and-and-“

“A complete set of our MGM LPs – and-and”

“Hey (again)! Nothin’s complete without a full one year’s free subscription to good old 16 Magazine!!”

Wow-that does it!! Yep, that really wraps it up! And if YOU dig those too cute obys staring out at you and would like to have –more than anything in the world (except maybe Barry and John themselves in the flesh – and tht’s impractical at the moment, but we’ll see what we can do in a future issue) – anyway, if you would just love love LOVE to own either Barry’s lion or Johnny’s mouse (or both, for that), here’s all you have to do:

Just put on your prettiest thinking cap and sneak off to a quiet corner where you won’t be disturbed and concentrate on the grooviest name you can think of for Barry’s groovy stuffed lion OR the most adorable name you can think of for John’s adorable stuffed mouse + depending on whether you’d rather have the lion OR the mouse. (You can, of course, try to win both the groovy lion and the adorable mouse – but you cannot submit names for both on one coupon. You must submit a name for the lion on one coupon and a name for the mouse on another coupon!)

When you have thought of a name for the lion OR the mouse (or names for both),l just print it very clearly in the space provided on the coupon. Then fill in the remainder of the coupon, cut it out and mail it to the address on the coupon. That’s honest-to-Injun all you gotta do!

Each and every name submitted for the stuffed lion and the stuffed mouse will be judged by Barry and John Cowsill and by Gloria Stavers, Editor-in-Chief of 16 and 16 Spec – and the names which, in their opinion, are the zingiest and the most appropriate will be the winners! And the senders of the prize-winning names will not only be awarded Barry’s groovy stuffed lion and Johnny’s adorable stuffed mouse – but also all these fab girts:

A gorgeous portrait of Barry and John, autographed by them; a complete et of the Cowsills’ MGM LP’s; and a full one year’s free subscription to 16 Magazine!

So quicklikeabunny nestle down in the quiet corner and nibble at your imagination until you come up with the best names a stuffed lion and a stuffed mouse could possibly wish for!
