Cowsills

The Cowsills have always had lots of fun together, even when times were hard. Here, left to right, Bob, Barry, and John have a friendly family grass fight.

They have a special surprise in store for you, a surprise you never dreamed of! Don't lose a minute! Grab your hats and come along . . .

SURPRISE! It's a Cowsills party, and you're invited! In fact, you're the guest of honor. Without you, there couldn't even be a party. What kind of party is it? Not a birthday party, although with such a big family The Cowsills have a birthday party nearly every time they turn around. And it's not just a party for fun, although The Cowsills have plenty of that, too.

No, this is very special and out-of-the-ordinary. It's a party to celebrate three years of success for The Cowsills! Just three years ago this summer, their first hit, "The Rain, The Park, And Other Things," launched the group to stardom. And since then, thanks to their own fantastic talent and the loyal support of fans who enjoy their music so much, The Cowsills just keep getting bigger and bigger.

Actually, although that wonderful summer of 1967 is one The Cowsills will

always remember, their story begins much earlier, when they were growing up with music, learning to play various instruments and singing together. At first, Bill and Bob played guitar and Barry was the drummer. But when John was just eight years old, he practiced the drums furiously until he was good enough to take over for Barry, who switched to bass guitar.

By 1965, The Cowsills were a neighborhood institution, playing together for local clubs, parties and churches. And soon, under their father Bud's management, they signed a recording contract and made their first single, "Most of All." But success didn't come immediately. For awhile The Cowsills had no money coming in and were in danger of losing their big house in Newport, R.I. But then they came to New York and found a talent manager, who got them a new contract with MGM records. Then

followed that wonderful summer with their first hit, which became a million-seller, and the exciting tour which introduced them to America—and you.

Since then, The Cowsills have had many reasons to celebrate. They've had hit after hit and countless television appearances. They've made many tours across the country and in Europe, and have fans all over that number in the millions. Last year they moved into a beautiful new house in Santa Monica.

And all the time they're writing and recording more beautiful songs. There's no doubt that the group, which now includes Bob, Paul, Barry, John and Susan (plus Mom Barbara), just keeps getting better and better.

So that's why The Cowsills are having a party—to celebrate their success and to thank you for helping to make it possible. After all, they couldn't have done it without you!

In 1968 The Cowsills performed at the San Remo Song Festival in Italy and enjoyed a Roman Holiday they'll never forget. Left to right, Paul, Barry, Ssuan, their mother Barbara John and Bill post before an ancient fountain. Above, Bob's inspired to sing a happy little serenade for us.

"Hair" was one of The Cowsills' biggest hits in 1969. Left, they perform it in full costume. (This time, you guess who's who.) Right the male members of the group now, left to right - Bob, Barry, Paul, John.
