Cowsills

She Bangles. He Cowsills They're married. They're country-ish.

Now in their late 60s, Cowsills singing drummer John Cowsill and Bangles lead guitarist Vicki Peterson have been married for over 20 years, during which time he's mainly been the Beach Boys' drummer. They've collaborated sporadically, but this is their first album together. It's comprised of songs written by John's late brothers and fellow Cowsills Barry and Bill, stretching back as far as The Cowsills 60s heyday.

With steel guitar prominent, it's a cross between old-style country and western and new-fangled Americana. It's impeccably played and sung (both separately and together), of course, and there's a spiritual undertow to When Hearts Collide and the Spanish-guitar-laden Ol' Timeless. They're not overly gloopy, though, and when they rock out on Sound On Sound it's as if the Georgia Satelites were still a going concern.

No cages are rattled here, but it's a union of two gifted people in late bloom.
