Labels Bring New Acts On 'Live

Rock acts with a good deal of stage presence are receiving close scrutiny from various labels, particularly with the success of MGM's family team, the Cowsills which has gone on to big disk fame and equal success as a TV attraction on the Ed Sullivan Show. The group, in fact, has also been introduced to the disk trade via "live" appearance parties.

It's A Girl For The Kornfelds
NEW YORK – Artie and Linda Kornfeld became the proud parents of a 5 pound, 5 ounce girl, Jamie Heather, on November 1. Artie produced, co-wrote and published the Cowsills MGM single, “The Rain, The Park & Other Things,” which is currently No. 2 on the Top 100. He is also cutting his own group, the Young Sound of Artie Kornfeld, for Bell Records.

Cowsills Retain ILAMI For Merchandising Drive
NEW YORK – Cowsills personal manager Len Stogel last week stated that he has retained ILAMI, the International merchandising division and license the newly established recording team.
With the group currently in the number two position on national singles lists with their MGM “The Rain, The Park & Other Things,” ILAMI is planning special Cowsill products including bubble gum, sweatshirts, surfboards, puppets and dolls. The merchandisers will also be working with Heroic Age publicity (the group’s public relations firm) on the licensing of special on-shot issues for fan publications, columns written by members of the family artists, and other programs involving the necessity of special licensing by Screen Gems.

Radio Spots From MGM Gaining Distrib Favor
NEW YORK—A new series of one-minute commercial radio announcements has been completed by MGM
Records for use by distributors in bolstering sales of MGM and Verve product. Use of these pre-packaged spot
announcements has been in force with the distribs since September, and the diskery reports enthusiastic reception
in promotion and sales departments across the nation.
Twenty-five of the one-minute commercials are included in the series, among those added since the original
spots were made are spots for the Cowsills and the Paupers.
MGM’s advertising department creates and records the spots using actors, personalities, the artists themselves
and the music from key albums. The spots are being produced by assistant advertising manager Harvey Cowen, with chief engineer David Greene
