Singles Spurt At MGM
NEW YORK—MGM Records singles
business is a swingin’ affair. The past
month, asserts Mort Nasatir, president,
was one of the best sales periods in
recent months. Lenny iScheer, MGM
manager, said the percentage increase
in business is about 500 per cent, with
a prediction of a hot hot-weather selling
season after this week’s national
sale smeeting in Las Vegas.
Phil Picone, single sales manager
for the MGM label, pinpoints the selling
splurge, crediting such artists and
titles as the Cowsills’ “Indian Lake,”
Eric Burdon’s “Sky Pilot,” The Magistrates’
“Here Comes The Judge,” Connie
Francis’ “-Somebody Else Is Taking
My Place,” Wajme Newton’s “Dreams
of an Everyday Housewife,” Roy Orbison’s
“Walk On,” Herman’s Hermits’
‘‘Sleepy Joe,” Bill Medley’s “Brown
Eyed Woman,” The Lovin’ Spoonful’s
“Never Going Back,” and “God Bless
Our Love” by the Ballads on the Venture
label.

Pop Best Bets
THE COWSILLS PLUS THE LINCOLN
PARK ZOO—Mercury Wing SRW 16354
The Cowsills, now with MGM, previously
recorded for Mercury. This album features
the “original” Cowsills (Bill, Bob, Barry and
John) before they were joined by other
members of the family. The pleasant, easygoing
sounds include “A Most Peculiar
Man,” “What’s It Gonna Be Like,” and
“Party Girl.” As an added attraction, a
Chicago group caled the Lincoln Park Zoo
makes its LP debut with “Love Theme From
Haight Btreet” and “If You Gotta Go (Go
Now).” The Cowsills current popularity
should boost the sales of this package of
their early material.
