Columbia Names Wisner Producer, Artist
NEW YORK—Jimmy Wisner, whose
arrangements have been heard on
numerous hit disks, has joined Columbia
Records as a pop A&R producer
and artist.
Wisner, also a writer, reached a
peak of success late last year when
seven records with his arrangements
appeared on the best-selling charts.
He reports to Jack Gold, vp in charge
of A&R at the label.
Wisner joins Columbia with almost
12 years of indie arranging, producing and writing. His gold record associations
include “1-2-3” by Len
Barry, “The Rain, the Park & Other
Things” by the Cowsills and “I Think
We’re Alone Now” by Tommy James.
Other artists who have recorded
with his arrangements include Ed
Ames, Jerry Butler, A1 Hirt, Jay &
the Techniques, Miriam Makeba, Herbie
Mann, Marilyn Maye and Spanky
& Our Gang. Barbra Streisand’s current
ColumWa single, “Our Corner of
the Night,” was arranged by Wisner.
He also produced recordings by Len
Barry, Robert Cameron, and Gloria Lynn.
