Barry - How To Meet Him & Date Him!
Spring 1968
16 SPEC

New York City and Newport, R.I. are where you're most likely to find Barry - on the street, sipping a soda, at the flicks, or playing football!

This might sound difficult to believe, but there are quite a few ways to meet Barry Cowsill - the cute, cuddly and completely lovable bass player for your favorite musical family! In fact, beautiful Barry is one of those boys who goes out of his way and really tries to meet as many of his fans as he can - whether he is at home or on tour!

CITY LIFE
As you know, the Cowsills have two homes. One is their beautiful 22-room mansion in Newport, R.I. (which is now being redecorated), and the other is the eight-room apartment in New York City - where Barry spends most of his time these days. Barry and the rest of the Cowsill kids have even transferred to New York City schools. So, someday when you are walking down a street in Manhattan and you see a handsome boy with brown hair and hazel eyes who looks vaguely familiar - well, it could very well be Barry Cowsill!

Barry attends The Professional Children's School on West 60th Street in New York City. He leaves the Cowsill apartment in the West 50s around 8:30 A.M. every weekday to walk to school, arriving there at 9 A.M. just in time for his first class. John Cowsill is usually with him, and they walk all over the city - cos they can't stand buses and subways!

Barry doesn't always leave school for his lunch break, but if it's a particularly lovely day and you keep your eyes open - you might see Barry in one of the soda shops near the school. He doesn't go to the same one every day, but if you're a good detective you shouldn't have much trouble tracking him down! Barry usually leaves school at 2 P.M. each day, meets his brother John - and they walk home together. Not one day goes by that they don't stop for a soda, so if you're in the neighborhood - you may very well run into the two of them. Just remember one thing: Barry loves girls, but he doesn't like gigglers! If you see Barry walking in your direction, by all means go over and politely introduce yourself to him. He'll be glad you did, and he might even invite you home to meet the rest of the family. But never, never rush up to Barry, startle him by screaming, or forget for even one minute that you're the lovely young lady he'd enjoy talking to.

DISAPPEARING BARRY
You see, Barry is extra special! He tries very hard to meet as many of you as he possibly can. He has even gone so far as to sneak into the audience from backstage when the Cowsills were doing a show, or disappear through the stage door long enough to sign autographs and express his thanks for the notes and gifts you sent to him. When he is caught, he is genuinely disappointed that he has to say "good-bye" and leave you. But that doesn't mean he won't try to join you again! Also, Barry reads every note sent backstage to him and even tries to answer them. Of course, that's almost impossible, cos he gets so many. However, he does love getting them. On almost all of their live shows, the Cowsills take a bunch of letters on stage with them and personally say "thank you" to the senders.

FOOTBALL & FLICKS
When Barry is not in the Cowsills' apartment doing homework, or when he is not busy recording (which, by the way, the Cowsills also do in N.Y.C.) or rehearsing with the rest of the Cowsills, he can usually be found playing football with his brothers in Central Park. Football is the boys' favorite sport, and Susie Cowsill sometimes goes along for the fun. So if you see a group of people walking through the park who look very much like the Cowsills - do go over and say "hi". You may even become their official cheerleader!

When the weather isn't too good, Barry like to go to the YMCA to play basketball or go swimming. His evenings are usually spent at the movie theaters, since he, John, Bob and Bill just love to see the latest flicks. They catch the early shows and, yes, they walk there too!

COUNTRY LIFE
The Cowsills haven't been able to get away from their hectic schedule long enough to go back to their home in Newport, R.I., for quite awhile. Actually, they have closed the house for the winter, but they miss it very much and sincerely hope to spend some time there this summer. Chances are, even if they had the time, the redecorating wouldn't be completed - but they just might find a few days to go back for a short visit, anyway. If they do, and you are in Newport - then head for the dock - and you'll be sure to find Barry there. The path from their home leads right to the bay - and Barry loves water sports and the beach! Also, whenever the Cowsills are in Newport, they always pay a visit to Dorian's, a club which is five minutes from their home. When the Cowsills are at Dorian's, they usually do a special show for all of their friends and neighbors - so be sure to check there to see if you sport a Cowsill in one of the corner!

Barry's favorite hang-out is a teen club called Bambi's - another place you must check out. There are only two movies theaters in Newport, and Barry's bound to stop off at one of them. Still another clue: The Cowsills have a football field right on their own property. It's located directly behind their house, and they spend many hours there. Barry has many friends in Newport - after all, it is his hometown - but don't let that stop you from approaching him. In fact, he'd love to invite you to meet his friends - and you're bound to have a good time!
