Plotkin met Jon Landau in 1976 when Landau, fresh from coproducing Springsteen’s Born to Run, was in Los Angeles producing Jackson Browne’s The Pretender. In 1978, Plotkin quit Asylum to help Springsteen and Landau finish Darkness, and he’s said he’s never regretted that decision. That same year, Plotkin produced the Cowsills’ reunion effort, The Cocaine Drain Album, which was never released.
