Page 188: Just as The Beatles and The Byrds exchanged ideas, several groups in Europe - where Pet Sounds and 'Good Vibrations' were worshiped much more reverently than in the USA - contributed similar sounds. British groups such as The Fenmen, the amusingly named Californians UK, The Robb Storme Group, Orange Bicycle, and Tony Rivers & The Castaways all took off from this psych-surf pastiche. Swedish group The Tages, meanwhile, were an effective integration of The Who and Brian Wilson. In the USA, the sound was virtually defined by The Cowsills' 1967 hit "The Rain, The Park, And Other Things: and its follow-up, "We Can Fly" (1968). Produced by Artie Kornfeld (who was also responsible for the 1969 Woodstock festival), the Newport, Rhode Island group was the real-life inspiration for The Partridge Family.
