Cowsill, Richard - Richard Cowsill, who served as the road manager for his family’s band, the Cowsills, died of lung cancer in Rio Rancho, New Mexico, on July 8, 2014. He was 64. Cowsill was born in Portsmouth, Virginia, on August 26, 1949, and was the twin brother of Bob. He instead was relegated to the role of road manager, responsible for transporting the band’s musical instruments, while his mother, brothers and sister recorded such hit songs as “Indian Lake” and “Hair.” The band also served as the inspiration of the popular television series The Partridge Family. Richard was thrown out of the house following a confrontation with his father at age 18, and joined the U.S. Army. He developed a heroin habit while serving in Vietnam and was eventually dismissed from service. He had a long struggle rebuilding is life, and later worked in construction in California. He finally appeared on stage with his surviving family at a event in Rhode Island in 2000. Richard was featured in the 2010 documentary film, Family Band: The Cowsills Story.
