Two years ago Christen (Cole) did a short opener here for Susan Cowsill, and earned glowing compliments from everybody in the room – based in Nashville . . . .
Thursday 2nd – Susan Cowsill, Christen Cole opens: New Orleans’ captive Continental Drifter, and a new voice from Nashville.
Thursday the 2nd – Susan Cowsill, Christen Cole opens, 7:30pm, $12
Millions of people knew Susan years ago as an impish tyke fronting her flower-power family band in AM radio hits – more recently she’s was a founding member of the legendary roots-pop band The Continental Drifters – and all the while, she was building a catalog of personal songs that made their way onto a couple of brilliant solo records, the first in 2005. Those tunes, and the newer ones she’ll bring to the stage tonight, reveal her penchant for examining the twists and turns common to all our lives, through the prism of her own remarkable journey through the landscape of American pop media. She’ll duo with her husband/drummer Russ Broussard, and add Janson Lohmeyer on keyboards to keep the New Orleans funk in her gumbo.
Thursday the 9th – A Fragile Tomorrow, and Brothers of the Bourgeoisie, 7:30pm, $10
A remarkable story indeed with these boys – Dom and Sean are two surviving siblings from a set of triplets, they’ve added younger brother Brendan and another Shaun to round out the band, and managed to spend the last three years warming up some of the biggest stages in the country, on tour with name acts like The Indigo Girls, Blues Traveler, Martin Sexton, Grace Potter, and our own recent guest Susan Cowsill (who calls them “my preci9ous baby-bays”) . . . they’ve made themselves winners in this wacky bizness in two ways: delivering razor-sharp pop-rock originals at every show they do, and being damn nice kids in the process . . . we can’t find anybody who doesn’t absolutely love them.
