Aquarius: Sign Of The Times

The record was a medley of two songs from last year's Grammy-winning best original cast show album Hair, an idealized interpretation of the Sixties hippie movement and its simple people-are-groovy message. Hair was nonetheless beloved by the record-buying public (becoming the top-selling LP of 1969) and spawned several successful singles. On May 10, 1969, the Hot 100 had the 5th Dimension's "Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In" at number one, followed by the Cowsills' rendition of the "Hair" single at number two. The show's other pop hits were "Good Morning Starshine," sung by Oliver, and "Easy to Be Hard" by Three Dog Night.
