Next day, Janis asked to start a reading word list of her own words she wanted to know how to read. Her first choices were "The Monkees" and "The Cowsills."

Each sucess and attainment was praised. Janis's reading list grew to twenty-five words, mostly popular singers and names of TV programs, but she could read them all. She also learned to do simple addition and started being friendly with the other girls.
