Another place The Cowsills played in the early days was the Bastille Club in Newport, with their first appearance being on September 5, 1966. The Bastille Club was in the Rotunda. "Grand Opening" ads show up in local newspapers in June 1966.
I was unable to find much about this club. It was on Newport Beach (I think that's now called Easton Beach.) Back in the day it added significally to the commerce of the area. Newport Beach Financial Report (dated November 1966) showed that Bastille dancing brought in $17,769. The Bastille eventually sported a surf shop and sponsored basketball and baseball teams. I didn't see much reference to the club after 1967, but I'm unsure when it closed.
Other bands playing The Bastille included, The Regiment Band, The Invaders, The Pruits, Vanilla Fudge (The Pigeons), Overwhelming Odds, Music Machine, Thee Argo, and New Orleans Dixie Band to name a few.
One fun Cowsill related observation. The Newport Daily News October 21, 1966 had an ad featuring a picture of John and Barry only.
