A Family Thing - Did You Notice That ....

  • From Don C. 7/23/13: "... when Bud sits down towards the end of the "Consider Yourself " is that the table has a vase with flowers on it. When Buddy Ebsen walks over to it, the vase has been replaced with the coffeepot and cup."

  • Barbara really shows her New England accent on her first line saying, "In the hall where you left 'em," and during Indian Lake with the "love and laughter" line, just like a Kennedy!

  • Susan shows some New York attitude with her, "I am NOT a baby" line.

  • Just watch Barry's expressiveness throughout the whole show. He's a great entertainer!!

  • The acting - good and bad at times. Paul does NOT play a trumpet in real life.

  • It's Bob that gets dumped in the water off the boat in the intro segment.

  • There are 5 surfers in the intro. Wonder which five?

  • Watch John do a figure 8 (??) swing with the arm and stick on the last time everyone puts their arm up in We Can Fly.

  • Buddy Ebsen hits the coffee pot in the 'Anything for another Buddy' skit.

  • Bill has no shoes or socks on in the 'I Like You' skit.

  • Bill's very realistic tone when he says, "Then, what do you want Susan?" Think he had said that a few times before? hee hee

  • Bill watches Barb dance at the end of the Doodlin' song dance. Just trying to stay in line!

  • John still doesn't have his pants on in the 'Barry's Hamster' skit. I ask John about that once and his reply was, "I didn't have any pants on in the special because it was a LOW budget production and it was just BAD editing. (You know I'm right.)"

  • What is Paul looking up at during Indian Lake?

  • During Indian Lake when Barb says, "Oh so many gray hairs," John smiles really big. Think the family tease might have caused some of those?

  • Towards the end of Indian Lake, John leaves the drum set, but the drumming goes on. He realizes his mistake and returns to drum again!!

  • The dog takes a lot. Watch his eyes get 'washed' during Happiness and notice Susan riding him in the end.

  • There's a slight musical mistake in the live part of In Need Of A Friend.

  • As they are pulling away the set at the start of Old Soft Shoe, they snag on something.

  • Susan adjusts her sleeve while standing on the table in Old Soft Shoe.

  • Susan's glance back at the end of the Old Soft Shoe segment.

  • John's nervous, swinging leg in the 'Love Advice' skit.

  • Bob's no socks in the 'Love Advice' skit. It must have been the fashion at the time.

  • John says "Candies" instead of "Candy" in the 'Love Advice' skit.

  • I have to find the name of the girls group who sing with the boys. The word is they were another MGM group the company wanted to get exposure.

  • Bill pulls his ear while singing, "Gee your ears are groovy."

  • Again bad editing. Notice that during Old Time Melody, the girl in the blue shirt seems to pop from Bill's right side, to his left, and back to his right.

  • Barb brushed the back of John's head during What The World Needs Now and he gives the best smile. Mom's baby boy!!

  • Barry puts his hand on Barb's back as they walk on What The World Needs Now.

  • Paul nudges Barry into position during What The World Needs Now.

  • Bud pretending to sing. Rumor has it that Bud had no musical talents.

  • Watch the intensity of Susan and John's faces during What The World Needs Now.

The show is great and does stand the test of time, in my opinion. These are just a couple of the highlights in my mind.
    1. Susan's performance throughout the whole show. Rumor has it that when the time came to be, the Partridge Family producers saw Susan as the child best fit to be in the series. You can sure see why!!
    2. The whole 'Happiness' skit and song. Not only is it cute, but the harmony is awesome for three babies!!
    3. A couple specific things Susan did. The "better than being a party poop" and her dance with Buddy were great!
    4. The whole What The World Needs Now Is Love segment. From the dedication to Richard in Viet Nam (not a popular thing at the time), to Barb's loving glances, to the great vocal arrangement!! I enjoyed watching Susan's eyes during the song and you can't top Bill's voice at the end when he belts out "What the World Needs Now Is Love". Shivers I tell you, shivers.
