Halidon Hall is the Newport, Rhode Island, mansion that is always considered the home of the Cowsills. Here are some pictures from back in the 60's and some more current. Halidon Hall is 23-room Victorian house complete with a captain's walk, which was at 21 Harbor View Drive. We are now told the house has been split in two and the current address says 21 & 27 Harbor View Drive. Back when the C's lived there the hill down to King's Park was open and the kids enjoyed their time playing there. Now houses line the hill and you can't see the house from the road any longer. Bob once posted the following and I assume he was talking about Halidon Hall, but I could be wrong. Bob wrote in 1999, "We lived in a house that had a cellar...as you stepped down the stairs there was a sign, 'Ye Ole' Dungeon' on the wall and the whole place was painted sort of wild...only a special few got in the dungeon...and not eveyone got out..." There was a tree house and I think I remember Barry telling a story of Rich building them a space ship there once too.
There is a Cowsill Lane in Newport, behind Halidon Hall. Now it's classified as an easement.
Cowsill Lane is accessed from Harrison or Eastnor and is behind Harborview as the crow flies. Here's some mapquest.com maps to Cowsill Lane. We found it at CM V - Sept. 2003.
A history of Halidon Hall was published in The Providence Journal in 2004. Click here to read the article.
On 11/13/14 Susan posted the following information about the property of Halidon Hill "So Bluebird is one hill over from HH, and the house, though it part of the package when we bought HH..we never lived/stayed/in it and I barely remember it! The cottage below HH, "Erie Cottage" was ours as well and we used it .... The new owners have since built an addition which now blocks the once magnificent view from "the big house" that's what we called it! Cuz.... It was... Well, Big ! So Blue Bird part of the purchase along with Erie and Big House... But never occupied by us! Did that help?" Click here to see a photo of Bluebird .
