BARBARA'S BULLETIN BOARD

How tall is Barry? L. Mackain, N.Y.—(see below)
The Cowsills' individual height? Lisa Backus, Connecticut-
Bob: 5'11"; Paul: 6'1"; Barry: 5'6"; John: 5'10"; Susan: 4'11".
To Mary H. in Portland: Don't feel so sorry for yourself. Paul and I agree you're quite a gal, and if we think so. I'm sure your friends do too!
To Jennifer Norris, Florida: Aren't my parents-in-law the greatest?
To L.J., Texas, and Karen Silverthorne, North Carolina: In trying to make sure we're in contact with all our friends, our policy has been to send out fan club invitations to all who write us. Before the fan club members' names got put on IBM cards, we sometimes goofed. Don't mean to bug you. We're only human! P.S. I sometimes wonder if Paul, John, or Barry would answer MY letters if I wrote! There are only so many hours in a day.
To Cathy Reid and Cindy Lorentson, California: Still have that fab scrapbook! Thanks!
How can I get a copy of "Impossible Years/Candy Kid?" Karen White, Massachusetts — Request your record store to get it.
"Mr. Flynn" was written by Bill, Bob, and whom? K.W., Massachusetts — Barry,
Is your house on the Santa Monica tour? Debbie Zvelinski, Massachusetts —No, not officially.
To Carol D., Inglewood, California: That's one of the problems in trying to be a matchmaker. You sometimes "out-match" yourself.
What's The Cowsills' address? Janie Lindvay, Colorado—The Cowsills receive all their mail at 9255 Sunset Boulevard, Los Angeles, California 90069.
Which twin is older? Phyllis Carrington, Illinois — Dick.
To G.M., Buckingham, Virginia: If we called you, we'd be playing favorites. Maybe we'll be having a contest of our own soon with a prize of a call from your favorite Cowsill. Watch the Chronicle.
From Barry to Sharon in N.Y.: "luv!"
To Andrea Kashmir, N.J. — If Diane Warner got your letter, we got it.
Is Barry's favorite thing Donald Duck? Suzanne Hahn, Texas — Well, for a while he did a Donald Duck imitation just to drive the rest of us nuts.
Whose twin is Dick? Does John "hate" girls except from Rhode Island and California? Michelle Coglianese, Arizona — Bob's. John likes girls just like any other boy his age. Having lived in Rhode Island and now in California, it's natural that most of the girls he's met come from those states. End of rumor!
To Nanette Hall, Illinois — Fernando Pham trong Hoang reads and writes English.
Special love to Connie Cupo in Pennsylvania, whose return address stickers read "Barry Cowsill Rules"!
To Cindy Cook in Massachusetts — Sometimes it's hard on the guards when there are such huge crowds of fans, all of whom want to see us. We always want to see our friends, but sometimes it's the policy of a theater not to let people come backstage. Hope to see you next time!
How can I get organ music for The Cowsills' songs? Margaret Gentry, Illinois — Get the piano music at your record store.
How old is everybody? Lisa D., N.Y—Bud: 45
Barbara: I've forgotten
Bob: 20; Paul: 18; Barry: 15. John: 13; Susan: 10.
To: K.O.H., Missouri — I'm not close enough to your situation to comment, but I'm glad you have your "aunt" and "uncle" to help you out.
Did you use a lime green station wagon in Detroit in the summer of 1968? My friend and I think we saw you. Sunday Gianoplos, Michigan — Yes, a Pontiac.

Janice Sue Keller
Catches the Cowsills
By Janice Susan Keller

When the greatly admired and musically talented Cowsills presented their as usual "musically and professionally perfect" presentation to an over-capacity Michigan State Fair audience, it was a "thrill-a-minute" for me. I witnessed the tremendous Cowsills from the vantage point of a hard-won hard wood bench (acquired by arriving to claim my seat at 10:00 a.m. and retaining my right to that space by guarding my claim against all comers with sheer grit!).
Then came the biggest thrill for me. Following the show, the State Fair officials gave me an O.K. to visit The Cowsills backstage to obtain a short interview.
Escorted to a mobile trailer in a fenced area back of the Music Shell, I was met by Bob Cowsill. Sensing my awe (when I failed to recall how to write the letter "s" attempting to record my interview on a pad of paper), Bob assisted in holding my notebook as I shakily put some words into print. He also succeeded in putting me more at ease so I was able to offer a "hi" to John and Paul and get them to autograph my book on The Cowsills.
Bob and Barry also signed their autographs, and Susan joined the group and told me about their poodle named Subar (for Susan and Barbara).
Bob told me that Susan would be appearing on the Dean Martin Show. By this time, Barry joined us, and the swoon I experienced at this point again left me practically speechless.
The Cowsills, however, are so adept at dealing with such situations that I soon found myself conversing in a normal, friendly manner (can you believe it?) with Barry!
One bit of advise from Barry, girls. He prefers girls who do NOT SCREAM during a Cowsill performance.
When I learned The Cowsills were doing a Christmas Eve show for the Kraft Music Hall, you can bet I immediately made plans for watching!
This story is my way of expressing a grateful "thank you" for allowing me to visit with you.

Cowsills

Here's a picture of Lois Nirenstein with Barry. "Actually, it's not Barry in person. I saw the milk billboards here in Macon, Georgia, and called up the manager of the outdoor advertising company and told him how much I liked The Cowsills and asked if he had any extras. He said he'd give me one, and Mom took me to get it. The figures are on the wall of my room. The leg belongs to Susan and the guitar handle is Bill. Don't worry, though, they're all in one piece!"
