A mass was held at St. Augustine's with the family attending. Then
Barry's ashes were scattered into the ocean after a service at 1 PM on Saturday, February 18, 2006 at the King Park Gazebo. In typical Barry fashion, the ashes blew back into the crowd so he will always be with us. A bagpiper played, Richard read a eulogy, Susan read a writing by Barry and Bob & Paul sang "Knockin' On Heaven's Door." The Mayor was there and declared February 18th to be Barry Cowsill Day in Newport. Barry's urn had been decorated with some things found in his pocket at the time of his death. These include a rock, his glasses, a piece of wood, an eagle with Navy bars under it, a piece of paper Barry had written his phone number on. Also added were a concert ticket from April 19, 1968 and a bird that had been attached to an angel that Susan had placed on Barry's box.
