Sion and Grizelle "Gilley" Yancy (Crawford Hawkins) Boon
Sion Boon was born February 16, 1760 in Edgecomb County, North Carolina. He was raised on the James River in Virginia.
Sion was a planter with a large plantation, slaves, and town property. He was Justice of the Peace in Morgan County, Georgia, from 1813 to 1817.
Sion was married twice. The name of his first wife is unknown at this time. She is the mother of five children: 1) Joshua 2) Mary 3) Thomas 4) Elizabeth 5) Nancy. Sion married a second time on November 26, 1804 in Green County, Georgia to what was to be his son-in-laws mother Gilly Hawkins. Gilly was born in 1772 and died in 1843 in Madison County, Georgia. To this union the following children are assigned: 1) Patsey 2) Sarah, born in 1802/7, died 1863 3) Gilly Catherine 4) Rebecah Yancy 5) John Rayford.
Sion Boon died June 17, 1829 at his residence in Madison, Morgan County, Georgia after a three month illness. His obituary in the Southern Recorder calls Sion a man who "led an exemplary and pious life. He was a member of the Methodist Church upwards of 20 years."
