Moses and Lucy (Rose) Bishop



Moses Bishop was born in 1800 in Virginia. After moving to North Carolina, Moses married Lucy Rose on March 1, 1825 in Johnston County, North Carolina. Lucy was born August 30, 1807 in Johnston County, North Carolina. Moses died about 1865 in Izard County, Arkansas. Lucy lived about another 10 years also dying in Arkansas.

To this union ten known children were born: 1) Thomas born in 1827 2) Caroline born in 1832 and married John Gray Blount Nelson 3) William born in 1833 4) John born in 1834 5) Asa born in 1836 6) Frances born in 1838 7) Martha born in 1841 8) Zachariah born in 1843 9) Benjamin born in 1846 and 10) Matilda born in 1848.

Sometime between 1825 and 1827, the family moved to Williamson County, Tennessee. The family also lived in Hardeman County. Here most of the children were born. Between 1846 and 1848 the family moved on to Arkansas, settling in the southwest portion of Izard County, just east of Sylamore, Arkansas. Here they owed several large tracts of land and a creek area was even named Bishop Hallow. Moses also owned several tracts of land in what is now Stone County.
