THE PRESLEY/PRESLAR/PRESSLY NEWSLETTER is a publication of the Presley/Preslar/ Pressly Family Research Association and is distributed to members and to various genealogical libraries. President and Editor is Edwin C. Dunn, (address withheld). Treasurer is E.L. Singleton, (address withheld).

Queries and items for publication should be sent to the Editor and will be included in the newsletter at no charge as space permits.

Inquiries, applications, and checks for membership should be sent to the Secretary, Anne P. Greer, (address withheld).

Inquiries concerning material in the Association archives should be addressed to the Research Director, James E. Anderson, (address withheld). Please enclose a large self-addressed, stamped envelope for a prompt reply.

We extend our special thanks to member Sharon Brogdon of Chandler, Texas, for the newsletter heading which she has produced for us. With this kind of talent and work by our members we can't fail but to get better.

During this first year of our Association we have been especially concerned with establishing responsible management of the organization, high standards of genealogical research, and a good communication system through the production of our newsletter. However, we have made only a small beginning, and a great deal more work needs to be done before we can meet even most of our short-range goals. So long as there are genealogical sources to be checked, improvements to our newsletter to be made, questions about family history to be answered, we are going to have much work to do.

Toward reaching our previously stated goals, and toward making our Association more valuable and useful to you, our members, we invite your suggestions and constructive criticisms. We also ask that each of you renew your membership for 1986-1987, Maintaining and increasing the size of our present membership will mean increased resources and increased benefits for each of us.

If you joined our Association before March 1, 1986, then renewal will be due by July 1st; if you joined after March 1, 1986, then your dues will be applied bo the 1986-87 year; if you do not renew your membership by Sept. 1, 1986, your name will be dropped from the membership rolls. Renewal dues ($10 per year; $5 for spouses) should be sent to our Secretary, Anne Greer (her new address is listed above).

We can't be successful in the achievement of our aims without your support and participation. Don't forget to send in your renewal dues; no further notice will be sent to you.

During this next year we hope to complete our acquisition of the census data and to devote more of our efforts to researching the county records that are of special interest to members. We hope to have the resources to begin obtaining military records, pensions, etc. from the National Archives, thus making these records more easily available to members. We hope to be able to enlist the help of those of you who live near an LDS Branch Library in reading some of the microfilmed records. We hope to improve the contents of our newsletter, to increase its circulation, and to try to make it a quarterly.

Albuquerque Police Dept. spokeswoman Mary Molina Mescall said that Candice Defrates1 shoulder purse knocked against an oxygen tank, causing a derringer in her purse to fire once and strike Prssley in the back. Presley was taken to an Albuquerque hospital, where she died about 5:30 p.m. No charges will be filed, Mescall said. "The officers at the scene said she (Defrates) was carrying the gun in her purse because of all the publicity over the Linda Lee Daniels case," Mescall said. CURRENT FAMILY NEWS (Continued):
CAREER - Profile: Jim Presley, Seattle Mariners, third baseman; Birthdate, Oct. 23, 1961; Hometown, Pensacola, Fla.; Wife, Pam. Presley, a 6-foot-1, 190 pounder, perhaps is the least known of the group [of young players with the Mariners]. But if 1986 is anything like '85, he quickly could move to the top of the list. After splitting time between Salt Lake City and Seattle in 1984, Presley quietly became one of the AL's top performers in his first full big-league season. He finished with 28 homers, 84 RBIs and 157 hits in 155 games. His slugging percentage of .484 tied him for 13th in the league, and his fielding percentage of .961 (434 total chances) ranked him fifth among those who handled 225 or more chances. There is at least one more club that believes Presley can be of help. The Baltimore Orioles, whose hot corner has been cold of late reportedly offered starting pitcher Storm Davis to the M's for Presley during the off-season. Both clubs reportedly agreed to the deal before Mariners owner George Argyros nullified it, deeming Presley too valuable. In 1974 [he] led his team to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa. [The Phoenix Gazette, Mar. 28, 1986]
